“The Mandalorian” star Gina Carano has rebounded nicely after getting fired by Disney for her social media posts. The former mixed martial arts superstar would be partnering with Ben Shapiro’s the Daily Wire for a new film project.
“The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams – to develop and produce my own film – come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered,” Carano told entertainment news website Deadline.
Details are being kept under wraps, but the Daily Wire said it will be released exclusively to its members as the company looks to bolster its entertainment division.
The Daily Wire, a conservative media brand, has moved into entertainment recently, releasing its first movie in January produced by Dallas Sonnier called “Run Hide Fight.”
“I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancelation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”
Carano will develop, produce and star in the upcoming film that will be produced as part of the Daily Wire’s partnership with “Bone Tomahawk” producer Dallas Sonnier and his Bonfire Legend banner.
“We could not be more excited to be working with Gina Carano, an incredible talent dumped by Disney and Lucasfilm for offending the authoritarian Hollywood Left. This is what Daily Wire exists to do – provide an alternative not just for consumers, but for creators who refuse to bow to the mob,” said Shapiro, who co-founded the Daily Wire with director and producer Jeremy Boreing in 2015.
“We’re eager to bring Gina’s talent to Americans who love her, and we’re just as eager to show Hollywood that if they want to keep canceling those who think differently, they’ll just be helping us build the X-wing to take down their Death Star.”
Before shifting to a career in acting, Carano was one of the top female mixed martial artists in the world. She has appeared in seven episodes of “The Mandalorian” as bounty hunter Cara Dune, a faithful ally of The Mandalorian character played by Pedro Pascal. Carano drew criticisms when she compared hating someone for their political views to the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust in an Instagram post.
The post Carano shared on Instagram said: “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews.”
She captioned the post with this question: “How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
Carano has also mocked the use of masks to combat the coronavirus pandemic, sharing a post of a person wearing multiple masks with the caption: “Meanwhile in California.”
The controversial posts saw her getting dropped from “The Mandalorian” by Lucasfilm, the company within Disney that owns the show and the rest of the “Star Wars” franchise. She was also ditched by talent management firm United Talent Agency.
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable,” Lucasfilm said in a statement.
It was a swift and decisive move, considering Carano had since deleted those posts. It was also clear that Carano’s posts were not intended to denigrate people based on their cultural and religious identities.
A source close to Lucasfilm provided some light to the matter, saying that Carano’s removal from the show was already in the works for some time now. “The studio has been looking for a reason to fire her for two months, and [her posts were] the final straw,” the source told the Hollywood Report.
Carano was never shy to show where her political affiliations lie.
A few days after the November 2020 election, Carano urged lawmakers to “clean up the election process” by enacting anti-vote fraud laws and “flushing out” the fraudulent votes. A subsequent tweet by Carano ridiculed the mask-wearing mandates ordered by Democrat officials amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
